A legislator’s responsibility does not end with attending sittings or making speeches.
Representation becomes meaningful when the issues affecting ordinary people are taken to the National Assembly and turned into action.
That is the message behind Hon. Joshua Chinedu Obika-MHR’s intervention on the FCT Original Inhabitants Resettlement and Compensation legislation.
The issue is deeply human.
Behind every structure marked for demolition is a family, a business owner, a student, a worker or a community that may have invested years building a life there.
When displacement happens without proper preparation, the consequences can extend far beyond the demolished structure.
Joshua Obika is making the case that government must follow a clear process…
Compensation where people are affected, and appropriate relocation arrangements where relocation becomes necessary.
This is representation with a clear purpose… take the people’s problems to the legislature, make laws around those problems, and create protections that can outlive one political administration.
That is the duty he says he has accepted.
And that is the standard by which representation should be measured.
