If you’ve ever had the opportunity to walk through the National Assembly Complex with Hon. Joshua Obika ,one phrase will keep ringing in your ears…
“God bless the Landlord!”
“Landlord!”
“The Landlord is here!”
You hear it at the entrances, the exits, the corridors even from fellow lawmakers.
Many people assume the nickname is simply because of his generosity.
From what I have witnessed, it goes beyond that.
He represents AMAC and Bwari Federal Constituency, and the National Assembly Complex, the Three Arms Zone, and several key federal institutions fall within that constituency.
That reality has earned him a unique level of recognition among many people who work there.
Beyond the nickname, his legislative focus has consistently centered on FCT-specific issues.
From the FCT Scholarship Bill to the FCT Resettlement and Compensation Bill, the FCT College of Nursing and Midwifery Bill, and the FCT Emergency Management Bill, he has pushed legislation aimed at addressing long-standing gaps affecting residents.
But let me return to my story….
As one of Oga’s boys, whenever we walk around together and people begin shouting, “Landlord!”, I know they’re not talking to me.
Yet, I won’t lie—my shoulders become broader, my confidence rises, and my walking style changes instantly.
Even the usual “Oga, your ID please” moments seem different when you’re following the man everyone keeps calling “The Landlord.”
Have you ever witnessed this yourself?
If you’ve walked around the National Assembly with Hon. Obika and heard the chants, share your experience in the comments.
