In a significant move towards inclusive empowerment, the Member of the House of Representatives for AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency, Hon. Joshua Chinedu Obika, has partnered with the Beautiful Gate Handicapped People Centre for a Wheelchair Distribution Initiative. The program, designed to aid nominated persons living with disabilities across the constituency, was held at Hon. Obika’s Constituency office along the Zuba Expressway, Kubwa.
The event witnessed a substantial turnout from the disability community, with attendees from various wards across AMAC/Bwari. Also present were key stakeholders, including labour Party chairmanship candidate for AMAC; Hon. Okeke Kingsley “OK” and several councilorship aspirants.
The Chairperson of the Beautiful Gate Handicapped People Centre expressed profound gratitude to Hon. Obika for his compassionate response to their request. He praised the legislator as “a man of wisdom, integrity, and a role model for justice,” highlighting his unwavering commitment to non-discriminatory representation.
The Chairperson emphasized the critical importance of mobility aids like wheelchairs, describing them as “a key factor for movement and independence.” He further appealed for the greater inclusion of persons with disabilities in employment opportunities.
In his address, Hon. Obika commended the Beautiful Gate Centre for their dedication to “practicalizing humanity.” He acknowledged the economic hardships that make it difficult for many to afford essential mobility devices, stating that supporting the less privileged, particularly those living with disabilities, must be a primary community focus.
The Honorable Member reiterated his proactive efforts to advocate for the community at higher levels, including an appeal to the Minister for the official inclusion of a representative for persons with disabilities in his office. He strongly supported the principle of inclusivity in all public offices.
“This is just the beginning,” Hon. Obika pledged, committing to continued support and collaboration. He thanked the attendees for their honor and encouragement, motivating individuals by stating that “regardless of their condition, they have the potential to achieve their aspirations.
In recognition of his exemplary humanitarian service, the leader of the persons with disabilities community presented an award to Hon. Joshua Chinedu Obika.
The event culminated in the symbolic distribution of wheelchairs to the beneficiaries, led by Hon. Obika and joined by other party leaders.
The initiative stands as a testament to Hon. Obika’s commitment to transformative representation and his dedicated efforts to improve the welfare of all members of the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency.
