  • Hon. Joshua Chinedu Obika Parleys With FCT Stakeholders Assembly

Hon. Joshua Chinedu Obika; Member Representing AMAC/BWARI Federal Constituency FCT Abuja, raised concerns about the exclusion of FCT’s original inhabitants in appointment for leadership of the North Central Development Commission (NCDC).

He advocated for equitable inclusion and emphasized his support for a bill to establish an FCT House of Assembly, aiming to enhance self-governance and address local issues.

Hon. Obika called for collaboration and unity among FCT stakeholders, including the Senator, House of Representatives members, six Area Council Chairmen, traditional leaders (Graded Chiefs), and appointed officials (Commissioners/Mandate Secretaries), to collectively tackle challenges faced by indigenous communities.

The FCT Stakeholders Assembly members who paid him a visit which include Hon. Ezekiel Dalhatu (ex-Commissioner, Public Complaint Commission), Hon. Musa Dikko(Commissioner Public Complaint Commission), Hon. Engr. Mark Morris, Mrs. Rifkatu Chidawa, Mr. Sunday Azaki and Pastor Danladi Jeji, commended Obika’s advocacy for indigenous rights and his plan to organize a town hall meeting for FCT’s original inhabitants.

Obika criticized the six Area Council Chairmen for their lack of cooperation, urging them to collaborate to advance development and representation for FCT residents.

The FCT, as a federal territory, lacks state-level governance structures, underscoring the significance of Obika’s push for an FCT Assembly. The focus on original inhabitants highlights ongoing debates about indigenous rights and political marginalization in Nigeria’s capital.

The NCDC pertains to regional representation, where FCT’s inclusion remains contentious.

Since he became a House of Representatives member, Hon. Obika has position himself as a vocal advocate for FCT’s indigenous population, leveraging legislative action and stakeholder unity to address systemic inequities and governance gaps.
