The Member representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency, Hon. Joshua Chinedu Obika, today paid a sympathetic and solidarity visit to the traders of Kugbo Market, Abuja, following a devastating fire incident that caused significant loss of goods and property.
Hon. Obika undertook an on-the-spot assessment of the of the damage. He expressed profound sympathy for the victims, acknowledging the severe impact of the disaster on their livelihoods.
During the visit, the Chairman of the Kugbo Market Traders Association, on behalf of the entire association, extended heartfelt gratitude to Hon. Obika for his prompt visit and compassionate gesture, noting that it demonstrated his closeness and commitment to the welfare of his constituents.
The Federal Lawmaker was accompanied by a non-partisan delegation including the AMAC Chairmanship candidates of the Labour Party, Social Democratic Party (SDP), and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), alongside other key team members, underscoring a unified community concern transcending political lines.
Hon. Obika strongly advised traders to prioritize insuring their goods against unforeseen calamities as such such, as a sustainable strategy for business protection and recovery.
Furthermore, Hon. Obika called upon the Area Council Chairmen across the Federal Capital Territory to take up their primary responsibilities in ensuring public safety. He urged them to implement and enforce stringent fire prevention measures, provide adequate firefighting infrastructure within markets, and conduct regular safety audits to prevent future occurrences.
“This unfortunate incident highlights the urgent need for proactive governance and personal business safeguards,” stated Hon. Obika. “While we offer our immediate support, a long-term solution requires both collective action from government agencies in providing secure environments and individual prudence from traders through insurance. We will engage with relevant authorities to ensure market safety is given the priority it deserves.”
The visit concluded with Hon. Obika reassuring the traders of his continued support and advocacy for measures that would aid their recovery and fortify markets against future hazards.
