The Town Hall Meeting on the 1999 Constitutional Amendment Exercise, organized by the Member representing the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency, Hon. Joshua Chinedu Obika, MHR, concluded successfully with robust and positive deliberations.
The event brought together a wide spectrum of stakeholders, including FCT Original Inhabitants, residents, community leaders, traditional rulers, and representatives from civil society organizations.
In his address, Hon. Obika expressed profound gratitude to the constituents of AMAC/Bwari for the privilege of representing their interests in the Green Chambers of the National Assembly. He seized the opportunity to present a comprehensive account of his legislative performance and achievements over the last two years, which was warmly received by the attendees.
The community leaders and residents in attendance commended Hon. Obika for his initiative in fostering inclusive dialogue on critical issues affecting the well-being of the people of the Federal Capital Territory.
A key outcome of the meeting was the formation of the AMAC/Bwari Constitution Amendment Committee. This committee is tasked with collating and articulating the constituency’s positions on the amendment exercise. The committee will be chaired by Mr. Sagari Sambo, with Mr. Princewill Okorie appointed to serve as Secretary.
Hon. Obika expressed significant displeasure regarding the absence of the FCT Area Council Chairmen, or their designated representatives, at the invited meeting. He emphasized that the current moment demands a focus on governance, not political maneuvering, and stressed that their presence as key executive figures is crucial to collectively lobby for the inclusion of the FCT’s mandates in the constitution.
To that end, Hon. Obika pledged to leverage his influence and personal relationship with the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on the 1999 Constitution Amendment Review. He committed to ensuring that any consensus reached by FCT stakeholders would be successfully incorporated into the constitutional amendments.
In his closing remarks, Hon. Obika pledged his continued commitment to providing positive and quality leadership that prioritizes the interests of his constituents and the FCT at large.
The Town Hall meeting was held at the 3J’s Hotel in Utako, Abuja.
