The Member of the House of Representatives for AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency, Hon. Joshua Chinedu Obika, was among the distinguished dignitaries who paid their final respects at the funeral service of the late Mrs. Grace Adayilo, fondly known as ‘Mama Africa’. The solemn ceremony was held today at the National Christian Ecumenical Centre, Abuja.
Mrs. Adayilo, a revered public servant and a trailblazer who made history as the first female Head of the Civil Service of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, was laid to rest in a ceremony attended by family, friends, top government officials, and associates.
Hon. Obika, renowned for his pragmatic and people focused representation, shared a close and valued relationship with the late civil service icon. He described her passing as a profound personal and public loss, noting her significant contributions to the development of the FCT’s bureaucracy and her role as a mentor to many.
In a heartfelt tribute, Hon. Obika reflected on Mrs. Adayilo’s legacy of integrity, dedication, and maternal warmth, which earned her the affectionate moniker “Mama Africa.” He expressed his deep sorrow and extended his fervent prayers for the peaceful repose of her soul.
We have lost a great matriarch, a pioneer, and a dedicated servant of the people. Mama Africa was not just an ally but a source of wisdom and strength. While we mourn her physical absence, we take solace in her remarkable life and enduring legacy, Hon. Obika stated. I pray that the Almighty God forgives her shortcomings and grants her eternal rest in His heavenly paradise.
The Honourable Member extended his deepest condolences to the immediate family of the deceased, her children, FCTA, her wide circle of political associates, and the entire FCT community, which he described as grieving a “colossal loss.”
He urged all to find comfort in the exemplary life she lived and the indelible marks she left on the territory’s civil service and governance.
The funeral service was a solemn celebration of a life of service, honour, and love.
May her gentle and loving soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.
