Hon. Joshua Chinedu Obika, Member of the House of Representatives representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has called on the Labour Party (LP) FCT chapter to ensure a credible, free, and fair primary election for the upcoming 2026 Area Council Elections. This appeal was made during the unveiling and public presentation of the LP-approved guidelines and timetable for the elections.
Hon. Obika emphasized the importance of transparency and impartiality in the selection of candidates, urging the party leadership to avoid favoritism or bias. He stressed that the party must choose credible candidates to enhance its chances of winning the elections. He also encouraged chairmanship and councilorship aspirants to work diligently in their respective electoral wards to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence and ensure victory.
In his address, Hon. Obika highlighted his efforts in the National Assembly to create a favorable environment for the Labour Party to secure executive positions in the FCT Area Councils. He pledged his full support to whoever emerges as the party’s candidate in the primaries.
Additionally, Hon. Obika addressed a recent statement by a leader from an opposing party who claimed incapacity to provide security vehicles for their Area Council. He countered this by affirming that the Labour Party has the capacity to provide such resources and to bring positive change to the leadership of the FCT Area Councils.
The Labour Party FCT chairman; Comr Peter Diugwu, expressed gratitude to Hon. Obika for his effective representation of the party in the National Assembly and assured him of the party’s commitment to conducting a credible, free, and fair primary election.
