In a significant cultural event that highlights the growing synergy between elected governance and traditional authority, Hon. Joshua Chinedu Obika, Member representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency, was today turbaned with the traditional title “HASKEN BWARI” (LIGHT OF BWARI) by His Royal Highness Alhaji Awwal Musa Ijakoro II, the Sarkin Bwari.
This honor recognizes Obika’s exceptional service and developmental impact across the constituency, particularly his efforts in bridging community divides and implementing people-focused projects that address critical needs in healthcare, employment, and inclusive representation.
This is not the first traditional honor for the federal lawmaker. In December 2025, the Fulani community within the Bwari Area Council turbaned Obika as “HASKEN FULANI BWARI” (The Light of the Fulani in Bwari) in recognition of his dedicated and inclusive outreach to their community. The broader title conferred today appears to be an extension of this recognition, encompassing his service to all people within the Bwari domain.
The Sarkin Bwari and other traditional leaders have praised Obika’s approach to representation. During previous engagements, traditional rulers have described his performance as “superlative and quality representation” and noted his “detribalized approach to governance,” which they consider unparalleled in the constituency’s recent history.
The honor solidifies Obika’s role as a key development partner to the traditional institution. In his previous acceptance speech for the “Hasken Fulani Bwari” title, Obika captured the essence of his pledge: “I have always been committed to shining a light on the needs and potential of every community. I pledge to redouble my efforts. The light will shine even brighter for inclusion, development, and unity”.
This event underscores the vital role traditional institutions play in validating and supporting effective democratic governance, creating a powerful partnership for grassroots development.
With the new title comes heightened expectation. The people of AMAC/Bwari will look to “Hasken Bwari” to continue and expand his light-giving work—shining it on more neglected issues, illuminating paths to opportunity for more constituents, and fostering greater unity across the diverse constituency.
Today’s ceremony marks both a celebration of achievements and a community mandate for the future.
